Controlling the hot water boiler
The hot water boiler must have some way of controlling its temperature. It must also have some means of limiting the highest temperature the boiler can reach to avoid boiling the water. Finally it must have some mechanical means of relieving pressure should all other safeties fail.
On the left is an aquastat found on some older boilers. It consists of a sensor (not shown) that is mounted in a well, a thermostat that can be configured several different ways to control a pump, burner, zone valve or high temperature limit. It also has a low voltage terminal strip for hookup to a wall thermostat. |
